Marsh Blazing Star puts on a dramatic show with tall vertical stalks, densely packed with stemless, fluffy flowers of the most brilliant purple. This upright, clump-forming native has long, narrow leaves (often described as “grass-like”) that are dense at its base, becoming shorter and more sparse as they ascend. The leaves host numerous species of moth, while the flowers attract many pollinators and the resulting seeds provide food for birds. As its name suggests, this species of Liatris is the most tolerant of wet soil conditions.
