Eurybia divaricata-White Wood Aster

White Wood Aster is one of the few native asters that don’t care for full sun and instead brighten up shady areas with their abundant late-season blooms. One of the earliest asters to bloom, it puts on a show from late summer through fall when clusters of delicate, star-shaped white flowers rise above the rich green foliage, seeming to envelop it in an airy cloud. These flowers attract an array of beneficial insects and their yellow centers turn red upon pollination. The seeds that develop feed birds and small mammals through the fall and winter months. A tough and adaptable plant with a mounding habit, it spreads via rhizomes to form dense colonies, typically growing wider than it is tall. An excellent choice for anyone looking to brighten up shaded areas or fill in tricky spots under trees.
