Chelone glabra- Turtlehead

Turtlehead gets its name from the large, white snapdragon-like flowers that bloom in late summer and into the fall and are said to resemble a turtle poking out of its shell. The unique flowers grow in clusters at the top of erect stems up to 5ft tall that sport lush, deep green foliage. It thrives in moist soils and will even tolerate occasional flooding. It attracts all manner of pollinators, including hummingbirds, and is an important larval host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly.
