Symphyotrichum novae-angliae- New England Aster

New England Aster dazzles with a dense display of large, daisy-like flowers that range in color from vivid purple to pink, with striking orange-yellow centers. These blooms bring fresh visual interest to the garden in late-summer and fall when most other plants have finished flowering, providing an invaluable late-season food source to a large array of pollinators. An extremely versatile plant, it thrives in a wide range of soil types and will adapt to all manner of light conditions except full shade. Its upright growth habit adds a strong vertical element to the garden, but a shorter, bushier form can be encouraged by cutting the plant back in early summer. When happy it is a prolific self-seeder but can be kept in place by removing seed heads before the seeds disperse.
