Blue-stemmed Goldenrod is a versatile and well-behaved member of its genus, gracing the late-summer and fall garden with delicate, bright yellow flowers borne along the top half of graceful, arching stems. Its narrow, dark green leaves are large at the bottom of the plant and get smaller towards the top, allowing its blooms space to really shine. Pollinators flock to these late-season flowers and the resulting seeds provide a valuable food source for songbirds through the winter. Like all goldenrods, its pollen is heavy, sticky and cannot be wind-borne, so it is not to blame for seasonal allergies. It is larval host to a remarkable number of insects, including moths and beetles.
