Foxglove Beardtongue is a hardy, clump forming native with attractive dark green foliage that turns brilliant shades of yellow and red in the fall. In early to mid summer stalked clusters of large, white tubular blooms rise on erect stems above the foliage and attract long-tongued pollinators including hummingbirds and an array of bees. Its leaves play larval host to numerous butterfly species including the threatened Baltimore Checkerspot. This species is taller than other penstemons and is more tolerant of clay soil. Will self-seed readily but is not considered particularly aggressive.
