Star Sedge thrives in damp, shady areas where it forms dense clumps of finely textured, arching leaves that give it a soft, elegant appearance. Its growth istends to be relatively upright earlier in the growing season and to flop as time goes on. Small green flower clusters form in spring and mature into seeds that radiate outward from their stem in a delicate star-like shape, hence it’s common name. This low-maintenance sedge spreads via seeds, which also serve as a food source for songbirds.
