All of the gardens you see in this gallery have been created using only native plants. Beautiful and resilient, they support our bees, butterflies, and birds while providing their owners with year-round pleasure!
Sunny Garden in Norridge
Norridge’s slow-draining soils meant this backyard flooded for an entire day. Red Stem Native Landscapes planted appropriate species and now there is no flooding—just a beautiful garden full of grasses and wildflowers that provides color and motion all year round.
Triple Rain Garden
Red Stem Native Landscapes replaced the overgrown evergreens obscuring this pretty bungalow with a gorgeous rain garden full of textures, color, and life. The day after planting the homeowners came out with umbrellas to admire the flow of water over boulders and stones into the garden.
Planted Swale from Sun to Shade
Red Stem Native Landscapes redirected the water that had been pooling on the main walkway. The resulting swale is planted with a colorful array of moisture-loving plants—sunny on one end and shady under the Serviceberry tree on the other.
Shady City Parkway
Who ever said your dry shady city parkway had to remain ugly and boring? Red Stem Native Landscapes created an enchanting woodland garden with gorgeous-but-tough native species that handled the stresses just fine, while charming passersby.
Backyard Nature Center
The kids had outgrown their little play set and mom promised a nature center in the backyard. So Red Stem Native Landscapes planted loads of edible-fruit shrubs, a rain garden, and a tiny pocket of prairie, as well as a hideaway alongside the house that immediately sprouted a pair of pink flamingos…not native, we know!
Double Lot Butterfly Haven
Red Stem Native Landscapes surrounded the house and lawns on this double lot with a vibrant garden where butterflies swarm and birds sing every day. Each of the past few years we’ve taken a little bit more lawn and devoted it to our region’s native plants.
Natural Stone Hardscape
Red Stem Native Landscapes also installs natural stone and hardscape features, here are just few examples:
